Unser momentaner Artist in Residence Brad Downey, dessen Werk für die Street Art Passage Vienna 24.06. - 30.09.10 ausgestellt wird, hält vor seiner Abreise eine lecture!
“Play With the City”
Subtle, comic and very often provocative, Downey aims to surprise the viewer by illuminating how public and private property, and urban space and personal experience, overlap in an era of increasing privatization. He finds forgotten remnants of urban architecture to re-invent and rejuvenate. These are then re-inserted into the everyday landscape. The works are a temporary disruption, usually remaining in place for as short a time as a few minutes, but also sometimes becoming a permanent fixture in the landscape of the metropolis.
Spanish interaction designer Roger Ibars will work on his “hard-wired devices”-project. He will attach (hard-wire) 100 different joysticks to timers to control its functions. By creating 100 different devices he intends to rescue vintage joysticks from the past and give them a new meaning, a new use and a new life. Each piece will be documented with detailed information about the features of each device and history facts of the joysticks.
Hard-wired devices : Timer edition
The “Hard-wired devices” are a collection of re-manufactured vintage electronic devices -such alarm clock and computer joysticks- in which two cultures of interface blend: the computer games culture and the home appliance culture. The resulting device is a fully functional new electronic object where the user can set up the time and the alarm of the clock using the computer joystick.
This project is a platform to show a part of the history of digital game culture in a exhibition space and engages an audience to know more about the history of gaming from the point of view of joysticks, their different design, types, functions, uses, history facts.
The audience will also have the chance to interact with each joystick, even if it is only to set a simple Timer.
Ultimately, this project is a celebration of gaming culture.
Anlässlich der Gugginger Irritationen II präsentiert SUBOTRON mit MARIO PAINT auf der SuperNintendo-Konsole ein interaktives Computerspiel von 1992, mit dem gezeichnet, gemalt, Animationen kreiert und Musik komponiert werden kann.
Das Bild wird auf eine Hauswand des art/brut centers projeziert und ermöglicht dem Publikum der Irritationen so, das Gebäude in ein temporäres Haus der Künstler zu verwandeln. Mit einfachen digitalen Werkzeugen können Werke der Gugginger Künstler weitergedacht
oder art brut-inspirierte Arbeiten kreiert werden.

ABSCHLUSSVERANSTALTUNG MIT ARBEIT VON DREI QUARTIER21 ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE
Am 30. Oktober 2009 präsentieren Subotron und Quarter21 die erstmalige Kollektivarbeit von Spieldesignern, Modedesignern, Hackern und Medienkünstlern. “SUGAR” ist eine Videospielinstallation von Artist-in-Residence Heather Kelley in Zusammenarbeit mit Artists-in-Residence Leonie Smelt und Mitchell Heinrich, die Spiele, Musik, Chemie, darstellende Kunst, Mode, Schalttechnik, und Kochkunst zu einer „temporären Funkel-zone“ im Herzen der Electric Avenue, des Digitalkulturbereichs von Quartier21, kombiniert.
SUGAR behandelt die Exzesse der kaiserlichen Hofkultur und -Geschichte sowohl von einem romantischen Blickwinkel aus betrachtet wie auch mit einem wissenden Augenzwinkern. Die Veranstaltung findet von 17 bis 20 Uhr vor dem Subotron Shop statt.
